We stayed in the Old Port anchorage for three nights. It is close to downtown so we walked into town and wandered around every day. There are lots of interesting shops, street vendors, restaurants, etc. especially around the Mercado Central (central indoor market that is a square block with dozens of vendors) and the town squares. We had a great time!
Near the anchorage was Isla Creston lighthouse. It’s the highest working lighthouse in the world. There was a trail to the lighthouse so we just had to go up there. The hike gave Luna and Tiki a chance to run off leash since there are no streets nearby. We went about ¾ the way up another day just for the exercise.

Old Port anchorage
The harbor jetty is made of those giant “jacks”, the same ones as in Santa Cruz! They made us homesick for about four minutes.
The sewage treatment plant is just upwind of the anchorage most days. Good reason to head into town for the day! The plant was usually only noticeable in the anchorage for a few hours in the late morning. But the anchorage price is right, just 30 pesos ( a little under $3) a day for use of the dinghy dock, restrooms and showers.
This is Ray's favorite picture from Mazatlan.
We went north to the Marina Mazatlan for five nights. There we caught up on grocery shopping, laundry, and some boat projects. While we were there we met lots of other cruisers and ran into new and old friends.
Ray on the dock admiring a larger, more well known boat that tied up next to us on our last night in the Marina.
Luna here- The Old Port was awesome. It had all kinds of interesting smells. Lots of dogs to meet. Cats everywhere. We were allowed to bark at any boat that came close by. One tour boat was named the Titanik-what were they thinking? The lighthouse trail was great. Then we got to walk into town almost every day and wander around sniffing stuff and going to cafes or restaurants. Then we went to the marina-uh! Gringoland. Leashes everytime we left the boat and no barking allowed. Geez, the marina wasn't much fun for Tiki and I.
